ABOUT THE ARTIST
As an artist I have always been interested in the interplay of designs, shapes and colors. I have been a weaver, a potter, a furniture designer and a muralist. Several years ago I began working in fused glass. I am drawn to it because of the unique qualities of depth, layering and reflectiveness that can be achieved by fusing together combinations of colored, powdered and iridized glass. The pieces on my website are representational of my work. My glass has been included in three juried shows at Arts Warehouse in Delray Beach. One received The Judge's Recognition Award.
To give you an understanding of my background, I studied Fine Arts undergraduate and completed post graduate work in Weaving and Textile Design. A year spent at The University of Siena, Italy, learning about the history and techniques of Italian masters and craftsmen, was a great influence on my artwork.
I taught art for a few years, then began designing and painting a line of handcrafted furniture, which was sold in shops in upstate NY. One of my children's chairs was selected as a "Best Bet" in New York Magazine. In the early 80s I started a business, Recycled in Color, selling handpainted used furniture to retailers. I was commissioned to design both painted and mosaic murals in commercial and residential settings. Ten years ago I moved to Florida and began making pottery and fused glass.
